Welcome, we’re stoked you’re here.
How It All Began
In 2015, we were searching for a bed frame that fit both our style and budget, but nothing felt quite right. With Al’s background as a carpenter, we decided to build our own. On the day of the build, Al was—unfortunately—nursing a serious hangover. But we pushed ahead, choosing timber in the morning and spending the day crafting our bed. By the evening, despite feeling worse for wear, Al turned to me and said, "That was the best day’s work I’ve ever done." In that moment, we knew this was something special.
Shortly after, Al’s parents asked us to make a bed for them, and things took off from there. At the time, we were living in a share house in Elwood, Melbourne, but quickly realised we needed more space. Renting a workshop in the inner city wasn’t an option, and we weren’t keen on moving to the suburbs. Instead, we set our sights on the Surf Coast.
In September 2016, we found a small farmhouse in Freshwater Creek and knew we had found our place. The move was transformative—giving us the space, inspiration, and freedom to refine our craft and develop our aesthetic.
Our philosophy is simple; Good Design for Good People
Good Designs
We believe in creating timeless, handcrafted furniture that enhances everyday life.
Our designs are:
Thoughtfully designed to bring function and beauty to any space.
Built with quality, locally sourced materials for sustainability and longevity.
Handcrafted with care to ensure every piece is unique.
Proportionate to its intended space for a seamless fit.
Simple to assemble—most of our beds require just a few bolts.
Growing the Business
Until August 2017, Al balanced the business with carpentry work. But as demand grew, he transitioned to Al + Imo full-time, a milestone that came sooner than expected. Today, Al meticulously handcrafts custom furniture in our workshop, while Imogen manages styling, photography, and customer relationships.
We believe in intentional production—we only make what is needed, ensuring our impact remains sustainable. Our customers share our values, choosing quality over mass production, and we’re grateful for their trust in us.
One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is seeing the journey from inspiration to design, build, delivery, and installation. Each custom request challenges us, shaping and evolving our style in ways we never anticipated. At our core, we specialise in functional, handcrafted bedroom furniture that is built to last.
Good People
We feel incredibly lucky to have found our calling and even luckier to share the same vision. Every person who has supported us—whether by following our journey or investing in our work—has been a part of this story.
Our customers aren’t just clients; they invite us into their homes, share their stories, and often offer us a cup of tea, coffee, or even a beer. They are absolute legends, and despite spending weekends on the road hand-delivering furniture, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Our Dream
In 2016, we wrote down our dreams. Since then, we’ve checked a few things off the list, but the vision remains the same.
Build beautiful furniture by the sea, surrounded by good design and good people.
Create a sustainable home, using environmentally responsible practices.
(See: The Good Day House Build.)Grow a conscious community, sharing our journey and inspiring a slower, more intentional lifestyle.
Above all, choose lifestyle—because what’s the point of building a life together if we can’t enjoy it?
