Master Bedroom and Ensuite Inspired by Boutique Hotels Around The World

The inspiration for our master bedroom and ensuite came from chasing the feeling we get when we stay in really beautiful places. Whenever we’re planning a trip I love to research and find unique accommodation. Places that inspire creativity and ignite ideas between myself and Al. So when it came to designing our own master bedroom and ensuite that’s where we pulled inspiration from. We wanted to bring in colour, texture and warmth by mixing different materials.

We chose a colour called “Close Your Eyes” by Tint Paint for the walls and ceiling, it’s lox tox and is a rich rusty, clay pink colour that makes you feel like you’re being wrapped up in a cosy hug. This colour is carried through into the ensuite where we have a concrete basin by Nood.Co in the colour “Musk”. The warm colour ties in beautifully with the Tasmanian Oak TouchWood Timber panelling we used for the headboard and wardrobe doors and the solid Tasmanian oak timber bathroom vanity we custom-made ourselves.

The door hardware is brushed brass by Hardware Box and Tapwear is Australian designed and made “Raw Brushed Brass” by Faucet Strommen which will patina beautifully over time.

To soften the room we installed Ivory sheers by Champion Blinds which are mounted to black tracks on the ceiling, sitting behind are motorised block-out blinds which we have set up using Somfy smart-home technologies to open and close automatically with our wake and sleep times.

Something that I learnt throughout this process is how important laying the right foundations is... insulation quite frankly is not the most glamorous or exciting part of a build... HOWEVER, having only ever lived in poorly-insulated homes in Victoria I can now say that my favourite part of our home is not the styling and pretty things but how bloody comfortable and quiet it is. We upgraded the insulation throughout our home and used Sound Shield by Earthwool Insulation via Pricewise Insulation and insulated all of our internal walls, external walls and then used even thicker batts in the ceiling. We have styled the rooms with the Paloma homewares collection by Sage x Clare which enhances that feeling of being somewhere exotic, peaceful and relaxing.
